The XTEND, XA Trainer and Expandable Narrative Design, is designed to provide the user with a stable hardware and software platform for application development with the XA-H4.  In many cases the XTEND may serve as a quick prototype for the actual user application.  With the on-board prototype area or optional communications modules, the user can quickly and easily get a new customized design running with the XA-H4.  Since the XA-H3 is a subset of the XA-H4, the XTEND-H4 provides full support for either device.

The XTEND-H4 kit includes the following features as well as many others:

Philips XA-H4 Microcontroller utilizing 100-pin LQFP package.

Full support for the XA-H3.

On-board DUART

  • Provides two DB-9 RS232 Serial Communication Ports

  • RS232 Cable and DB25 adapter included

Example Routines for Applications.

  • XA-H4 Initialization Routines

  • Serial Port Drivers

  • Timer/Counter Drivers

  • Watchdog Timer Setup

  • Interrupt Routines

  • Crossview Debugger Demo with ROM Monitor pre-programmed

The XTEND-H4 supports a wide variety of memory technologies.

  • EPROM
  • FLASH
  • SRAM
  • DRAM (72-pin DRAM SIMM socket included supporting up to 16MB of DRAM)

Also available for use with the XTEND-H4 are the following Communications Modules:

  • Multi-Protocol Serial Module, or "MSM". This Communications module will provide 4 Multi-Mode High-Speed Serial Interfaces supporting RS232, RS422, RS449, EIA530, EIA530-A, V.35, V.36, and X.21.
  • Simple Serial Module or the "SSM."  This module provides four complete RS-232C physical interfaces on a low cost card.
