The IPU, IO Processing Unit, utilizes the latest PowerPC from Freescale, the MPC8349. Operating at 533MHz, this design provides significant processing power for use in a wide range of data collection and analysis applications. The design supports Gigabit Ethernet, Dual High-speed USB2.0 ports, Dual IEEE1394A Firewire Ports, up to 1GB DDR RAM, Compact FLASH Socket, Real-time Clock, and System Monitor. The IPU is powered from dual 7.5V battery packs, currently supporting NiMH cells. This design is an 8-layer PCB using significant matched length traces and micro-vias.
