Increasing touch screen sensitivity

I need to mount a touchscreen behind a polycarbonate sheet that is 3-4mm thick, but the ELI43-CP screen does not register touches through that thickness of material. Is there a way to increase the touch sensitivity/reduce the touch threshold?
