The latest addition to Future Designs’ uEZ GUI Family, the uEZGUI-1788-70WVM, features a 7.0” WVGA display (800 x 480) with a Projected Capacitive or PCAP Touchscreen interface. With customer demand for PCAP Touchscreens in GUI and HMI applications increasing rapidly due to the influence of consumer products like Android devices and iPhones, FDI is excited to offer a large PCAP touchscreen solution for the embedded market.
This newest PCAP offering compliments FDI’s standard 7.0” WVGA uEZ GUI unit, P/N uEZGUI-1788-70WVT, which includes a 4-wire resistive touchscreen. Together these two units offer customers a choice of touchscreen technology in our off-the-shelf GUI units.

Future Design’s new µEZ® GUI 7.0” is a compact, highly integrated, Touchscreen LCD controller platform that can be quickly and easily integrated into your product. The µEZGUI-1788-70WVM is based on the LPC1788 microprocessor from NXP and has 8MB of SDRAM (optional up to 32MB) and 8MB of NOR Flash (optional up to 16MB). The unit includes a 7.0” WVGA TFT LCD and dimensions for the complete assembly are only 6.7″ x 5.2″ X 0.63″ tall.
On board features include USB Host/Device, micro SD memory card, Real-Time Clock with Super Cap backup, 3-axis accelerometer, speaker, temperature sensor and mini JTAG connector. The unit features a fully integrated Projected Capacitive or PCAP touchscreen with integrated LED backlight driver and control circuit. Optional features include a 802.11n Wi-Fi module. The unit also supports the addition of an Expansion Board for additional communication interface options like USB Host, Ethernet, RS485, and RS232 support.
The µEZGUI-1788-70WVM features video playback capability from the high speed micro SD Card using a simple technique developed by FDI. Video playback is in a WQVGA resolution window with a 15 frame per second playback rate and is useful for functions such as Quick Start Instructions at boot-up, detailed trouble shooting guides or even product advertising when a unit is idle. Video sources can be in common formats such as MPEG or AVI with a simple one-time conversion on a PC before storage and playback uEZ GUI.
The kit is based on FDI’s µEZ® Rapid Development Platform (pronounced “Muse”), which includes an extensive library of open-source software, drivers, and processor support, all under a common framework. μEZ development works on the premise of “design once, reuse many times.” μEZ allows companies to focus on innovation and on their own value-added applications while minimizing development time and maximizing software reuse.
The µEZGUI-1788-70WVM kit also includes a Segger J-Link Lite JTAG debugger and a demo version of the powerful Segger emWin GUI software development package along with all cables. All documentation and sample videos are included on the 4GB micro SD card and when the unit is plugged into a PC the card appears as a USB Flash drive so the documentation can easily be copied to the PC. The unit is also available as a stand-alone board assembly for cost effective use in volume production, under Part Number uEZGUI-1788-70WVM-BA. Volume pricing for the –BA assembly is around $190.00 at 1Ku. Both the Dev Kit and the cost effective Board Assembly are available through any of our franchised distributors including Avnet Embedded, Digi-Key and Mouser.
