SAFERTOS Partnership

A Certified Path to Safety-Critical Embedded Design

Future Designs, Inc. partners with WITTENSTEIN high integrity systems to bring SAFERTOS® into the μEZ® software platform, giving customers a pre-certified, safety-critical RTOS option alongside FreeRTOS. SAFERTOS is built on the FreeRTOS functional model but re-engineered from the ground up for safety. Since SAFERTOS shares FreeRTOS’s API and functional model, FDI’s engineers can move a project from open-source prototyping straight into certified development without re-architecting the application layer.

μEZ® + SAFERTOS — A Certified Option Alongside FreeRTOS

FDI builds SAFERTOS directly into the μEZ® platform as the safety-certified counterpart to FreeRTOS. When a customer’s project moves from concept into a regulated space — medical, industrial, automotive, or aerospace — FDI can carry the same μEZ GUI codebase forward onto SAFERTOS instead of rewriting the RTOS layer from scratch.

Design Assurance Pack — Streamlined Certification Evidence

Every SAFERTOS deployment ships with a Design Assurance Pack (DAP): a complete certification evidence package that includes a Safety Manual, integration guide, API reference, and traceability documentation. FDI’s engineers use the DAP to avoid re-testing SAFERTOS on target hardware, which shortens the path to certification for customer-facing designs built on FDI’s platforms.

FreeRTOS-to-SAFERTOS Migration — Prototype Free, Certify Later

Because SAFERTOS and FreeRTOS share a common functional model, FDI can prototype a customer’s application on the free, open-source FreeRTOS kernel and migrate to SAFERTOS once the project enters formal, certifiable development. This gives customers a low-risk way to validate a design before committing to a safety-certified license.

Products Built on FreeRTOS

µEZ GUI logo

μEZ GUI – Standalone LCD GUI Family

FDI’s μEZ GUI product family is a line of off-the-shelf, standalone touchscreen GUI and HMI production modules built on NXP microcontrollers, including the LPC1788, LPC4088, and LPC4357. Each module runs the proven μEZ® / FreeRTOS software platform and is available as both development-kit (with JTAG debugger, power supply, and full documentation) and production-modules for volume deployment.

A μEZ GUI can serve as the main controller in an application or as a slave GUI to add a display to an existing NXP-based design. Display sizes range from 3.5″ to 7.0″, in resistive and capacitive touch options, with a minimum 10-year production guarantee.

SuRG – Sunlight-Readable GUI Family

SuRG is FDI’s family of low-power, sunlight-readable GUI LCD modules, built on the FreeRTOS platform, and optimized for the STMU585 microcontroller. Supporting various power modes, SuRG is ideal for applications where low-power consumption is critical. Whether you need a primary controller or a simple GUI display, SuRG is the uncontested choice where battery life matters.

These are 10-year channel life, standard products stocked through DigiKey, Mouser, Avnet, and WPGA, with quick customization available for specific applications.
