NXP Partnership

25+ Years of Versatility and Reliability

Future Designs, Inc. has built its flagship μEZ GUI and ELI product families around NXP’s ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers, making NXP one of FDI’s longest and most extensively used silicon partners. For more than 25 years, FDI has designed, manufactured, and supported embedded touchscreen and HMI solutions for industrial, medical, and other high-reliability applications, and NXP LPC-series MCUs power a significant share of FDI’s standard product line.

FDI’s engineering team has deep experience across the NXP LPC portfolio — from the ARM7TDMI-based LPC2xxx and ARM9-based LPC3xxx families, through the Cortex-M0 LPC11xx, Cortex-M3 LPC13xx/LPC17xx, and Cortex-M4F LPC40xx/LPC43xx/LPC546xx families — giving customers a partner who can support both new NXP-based designs and long-lifecycle legacy products.

FDI Developed Quick Solution that Saved Customer from Shutting Down

When the 2020 pandemic hit, everyone was affected, and this was especially the case for one particular customer, who was so heavily impacted by shortages they faced layoffs and closure.

FDI developed a new design in just a few weeks using the NXP LPC1788 that saved the customer’s business and cemented their confidence in both NXP and FDI.

Capacitive-Touch Design for Emergency Equipment Manufacturer in Use for 7 Years

One of the designs developed by FDI for a customer utilizes the NXP LPC54608 – a design so intuitive and complete that the customer has used it consistently with no changes for over 7 years.

Resistive-Touch Plug-and-Play Design Supplied Stock for Customer’s Shortage

Once more a result of the pandemic, one of FDI’s and NXP’s customers needed a large stock of simple plug-and-play touchscreen LCDs for their business. FDI’s ELI70-CR utilizing the LPC11U24 was an instant hit and has been the go-to design for this customer for the last 5 years.

FDI Developed the Following Kits and Expansion Boards in Partnership with NXP:

  • µEZGUI-EXP-DK
  • µEZGUI-EXP1
  • µEZGUI-EXP-BRKOUT

μEZ GUI — Standalone Touchscreen GUI/HMI Modules

FDI’s μEZ GUI product family is a line of off-the-shelf, standalone touchscreen GUI and HMI production modules built on NXP microcontrollers, including the LPC1788, LPC4088, and LPC4357. Each module runs the proven μEZ® / FreeRTOS software platform and is available as both development-kit (with JTAG debugger, power supply, and full documentation) and production-modules for volume deployment. A μEZ GUI can serve as the main controller in an application or as a slave GUI to add a display to an existing NXP-based design. Display sizes range from 3.5″ to 7.0″, in resistive and capacitive touch options, with a minimum 10-year production guarantee.
