Future Designs, Inc. (FDI) has partnered with SEGGER — The Embedded Experts — for over 30 years, relying on SEGGER’s debug, production, and graphics tools across nearly every stage of embedded design. SEGGER is a full-range supplier of software, hardware, and development tools for embedded systems, and FDI’s engineering team uses its tools daily for debugging, production programming, and GUI development.
FDI has used SEGGER tools on well over 40 customer designs to date, spanning Cortex-M, ST, RA, and other MCU families.
How FDI Uses SEGGER Tools
J-Link Debug Probes — Production Programming & Engineering Debug
SEGGER’s J-Link debug probes support more than 14,000 microcontrollers and set the standard for fast, reliable programming and debugging. FDI uses J-Link hardware on both ends of the development lifecycle: engineers rely on it daily for interactive debugging during firmware development, and production lines use it for high-speed, in-system flash programming of finished boards.
RTT Viewer — Engineering Software Development & Debugging
J-Link RTT Viewer gives engineers a lightweight terminal for SEGGER’s Real Time Transfer (RTT) technology, allowing text output, logging, and interactive input to and from a target application without stealing CPU cycles the way a traditional UART or breakpoint-based approach would. FDI’s engineers use RTT Viewer heavily during day-to-day firmware development, giving them real-time visibility into application behavior without disrupting execution.



SystemView — Solving Complex Customer Software Issues
SystemView is SEGGER’s real-time, non-intrusive software analysis tool. It visualizes tasks, interrupts, and software timers with high-resolution timing data, helping developers spot inefficiencies, resource conflicts, and unintended interactions in multi-threaded systems. When customers bring FDI complicated software issues such as race conditions, scheduling conflicts, or hard-to-reproduce bugs in RTOS-based systems, SystemView is one of the primary tools FDI’s engineers reach for to trace the system’s actual runtime behavior and pinpoint root cause.
J-Link SDK — Custom Production Programming Tools
The J-Link SDK lets customers integrate J-Link support directly into their own applications via a C-language API. FDI uses the J-Link SDK to develop a customized version of J-Link Commander, tailored to FDI’s own production programming workflows — giving production lines a purpose-built programming utility instead of a generic off-the-shelf tool.
emWin — Graphics Library for uEZ GUI Development
emWin is SEGGER’s professional embedded GUI library, built for high-quality graphics on resource-constrained embedded systems, with support for displays ranging from simple panels to high-resolution touchscreens. FDI uses emWin as one of the graphics libraries underlying uEZ GUI development, giving FDI’s GUI framework a proven, portable rendering engine with touch support, anti-aliasing, and a low memory footprint.



Ozone — Debugging
Ozone is SEGGER’s full-featured, stand-alone graphical debugger and performance analyzer for Arm- and RISC-V-based applications, supporting any toolchain and providing instruction tracing, code profiling, and code coverage alongside standard debug controls. FDI’s engineers use Ozone for debugging across projects, taking advantage of its RTOS awareness and performance-analysis features when standard IDE debuggers aren’t enough.
