This I/O processing unit (IPU) uses Freescale’s MPC8349 PowerPC chip at 533MHz. The design provides significant processing power for use in a range of data collection and analysis applications. Interfaces include gigabit Ethernet, two USB 2.0 ports, two FireWire (IEEE1394A) ports, and a CompactFlash socket. It holds up to 1GB of DDR RAM, and has a real-time clock and a system monitor.
Dual 7.5 V NiMH battery packs power the IPU, which is an eight-layer PCB with significant matched-length traces and micro-vias.
